I have a lot of followers on this blog, so I’m going to use it for just a moment, to bring something horrible and important to light, and to ask you to help me to stop it.

I live in Arizona, a.k.a. probably the most backwards US state out there. There is pretty much no gun control (you can even bring a gun into a bar), we have gool ol’ Joe Arpaio, who is currently on trial for violating civil rights in his ridiculous campaign against illegal immigration, and now I find out that we also have some of the most dangerous politicians; far more dangerous that I would have ever thought, even from this shithole of a state.

Last year, a woman was sexually assaulted by a drunk cop in a bar. “A jury convicted him of sexual abuse, a felony with a maximum sentence of 2 and a half years in prison, and [he] was fired from the police force after an internal investigation.” Disgusting, but he was supposed to get punishment, right?

Wrong.

Judge Jacqueline Hatch decided that the cop’s actions did not warrant jail time. Instead, she just sentenced him to probation and 100 hours of community service. He also will not have to register as a sex offender. ON TOP OF THIS, these are some of the things that she said to the woman who was assaulted:

“If you wouldn’t have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you.”

“I hope you look at what you’ve been through and try to take something positive out of it. You learned a lesson about friendship and you learned a lesson about vulnerability.”

“When you blame others, you give up your power to change.”

Absolutely. Disgusting. And coming from a woman! It is disgusting that women are constantly blamed for everything that happens to them. Oh, you were raped? You were asking for it. Oh, you were sexually assaulted? Try to be positive! And we’re not even going to put your attacker away!

It sickens me that we live in the 21st century, and there are so many people who still think like this. With so many who are denied civil rights, women who are still being told what they can and cannot do with their own bodies, and shit like this. It is a disgrace.

Sure is a great world to live in if you’re a straight white male, now, isn’t it?

There is a petition, asking this woman to step down from her office, and I urge you to sign it. I sure as hell did. Injustices like this should not and cannot be tolerated.

Wow. That is NOT what judges are supposed to do. This woman needs to be disbarred ASAP, and that cop needs to be in jail.
