Man, let’s say you’re at a party, yeah? And there are people at the party that prefer cake, and people at the party who prefer pie, so the host serves both. Alright, cool.

So you go in for a slice of pie, when suddenly the host CHARGES over and goes “WOAH WOAH WOAH WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?”

“I’m having some pie, man, chill.”

“What the hell? I thought you had cake last time.”

“Yeah, I did have cake last time. But I’m not feeling the cake tonight. And this is my favorite kind of pie.”

“Ohhh no. I thought you were a CAKE person and now all of a sudden you’re eating pie on me? You’re confusing me! Make up your mind!”

“What’s the big deal, even? There’s plenty of both for everyone.”

“YOU CAN’T LIKE BOTH CAKE AND PIE. YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE.”

But man, fuck that guy, I’m going to have the pie anyway, who cares if I had cake last week.

And then if that pie is so good that I never want any other dessert for the rest of my life, that doesn’t mean I suddenly never liked that cake that I ate.

Actually this metaphor is kind of dumb. I guess I should just leave it at “fuck you.”

No, it’s sweet. In fact, it’s a lovely springboard for the rest of the sexualities. For instance, asexuality:

You’re enjoying the party - the music, the conversation - but you just don’t feel like eating cake or pie.

Suddenly, the host charges over with some cake he’s sure you’ll love. He knows this cake. It’s not too rich and not too dry. You politely refuse.

The party keeps going until the host comes back with a slice of pie, practically shoving it in your hands. You try to refuse again.

“Oh come on, what do you want?”

“Nothing, I’m fine.”

“No, I just don’t eat pie. Or cake.”

“…you had a bad experience with dessert, didn’t you?”

“Excuse me?”

“Forgive me if I’m getting too personal, but it had to be something traumatic. Did someone spike a baked good of whatever construction with a laxative?”

“Fuck no. I just have no desire to eat dessert. I’m sure your pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, waffles, wafers, Nutella sandwiches, what have you…I’m sure they are all lovely. Please, serve them to any and all who would consume them. I’m not one of them. Is that really so hard to comprehend?”

I sort of really love dessert metaphors for sexuality because some of the things people say about sexuality are so ridiculous, but people really only notice them with the metaphors.

Also I love them because I like food and I’m going to eat some dessert now.

the metaphor may begin to break down around demisexuality but what if you’re not really into the whole “eating desserts” thing, in general; like, maybe sweets just ain’t your thing! But your significant other always makes special desserts just for you and they put a lot of effort into them and so of course you eat them and they’re—well, they’re really nice, and so from then on you just really like the desserts they make, but if you go out to a party and they just have random desserts chillaxing you’re always like “eh” “nah” “doesn’t look too appetizing” “[SO] didn’t make ‘em they’re probs not that gr8”

and with pansexuality is like if you like cakes AND pies AND puddings and—just, all desserts, as long as they taste good! Trifles? Yes! Cookies? Yes! Fruit salad? Yes! Ice cream? Yes! But then people are just like “what there are only pies or cakes to choose from WHAT ARE THESE OTHER DESSERTS YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT I DON’T UNDERSTAND U”

When I was 14, I had a girlfriend.

Her name was Athena.

We had a lot in common. She was smart and funny, she loved Lord of the Rings, introduced me to Phantom of the Opera (which she would sing all the time), Resident Evil, Xena, and wanted to show me Buffy as well. She was absolutely beautiful, and we were best friends. One night I confessed my feelings for her at a sleep over, and she reciprocated them, and we fell asleep in each other’s arms.

And one time, she was at my house, and we were kissing.

My dad, out watering the lawn, saw us through the window.

When Athena left that night, my parents had a “Talk” with me.

They spent several hours with me, arguing and yelling and not listening. They demanded to know if I was a lesbian or straight. They REFUSED to believe that I liked both. I tried to explain that I felt attraction for both males and females, that a person’s sex didn’t matter to me, but I was 14. I didn’t know how to explain what I felt, and my mother was verbally battering me and telling me I could not like both. Eventually I broke down and said I was straight, just so they would STOP.

My parents are very supportive of gay rights.

And yet when it came to their daughter being bisexual, they could not except that.

They forced me to stop talking to Athena.

I never had a chance to tell her what had happened.

And when I meet her again, years later, I could tell she hated me.

So here’s a big fat FUCK YOU to anyone who has a problem with bisexuals. GET THE FUCK OUT.

We get it enough from straight people who think we’re weird, and we get enough of the bullshit in this tweet from, believe it or not, a lot of gays and lesbians who are of the opinion that we have to pick a side and if we don’t we’re just “faking it” because “bisexuals aren’t real”.

You know what? Going back to the pudding metaphors, it’s purely because people don’t understand. Society is so ‘one sided.’ It’s either cake or pie, that’s it. But you know what I think? I think that every single human being on this planet, no matter what pudding they claim to like, is only 99.9% that way inclined. Say you’re a cake person… you’re at a party, when suddenly, a really fucking delicious looking pie is put on the table in front of you… unless you’re blind, deaf and dumb, I’m pretty damn sure that you’d AT LEAST be able to appreciate how yummy this pie looks. You don’t go over to the pie, you don’t have a slice or even take a bite, but from a distance you nod in approval and state ‘that looks good. It’s not for me, but wow it does look good.’ So when a person enters the party and says they’d like a slice of each, people just DON’T get it. And a huge part of the reason why is, when you’re either a cake or a pie person, half the time you’re too damn scared to admit that you think the other kind of pudding looks good. Me, I’m a cake girl (I know we didn’t assign genders but whatever, I’m on a roll!) myself, but you know what? I’ve had a little taste of pie. DEFFO not a full slice, but yeah, I’ve had a tiny mouthful. And although cake is always going to be the way I go, it definitely doesn’t take away from the pie. Pie and cake are equally awesome, and anyone, no matter your preference, should be able to admit that.

Now, can someone tell me what pudding transexuals eat?

“transsexual” is outdated and considered offensive by most people. transgender is the word you’re looking for.
transgender individuals can be any sexuality that cisgender (non-trans people) individuals can be; straight, gay, bi, pan, etc.

So, my dad and I used to watch this every night when I was in high school. He played ‘name the Star Trek voice actor’ and I laid on my stomach in the middle of the living room floor and soaked up the drama and Shakespeare references.

I re-watched this whole series last year.

It had a lot of shitty filler that I didn’t remember, but the actual story was just as entertaining as I remembered.
